3. TASK 3 (DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN)

Task 3 Brief
Once one of the selected sketches is approved, we are required to refine and develop it by digitizing it into a new and improved design, applying the design principles we have learned.

Photoshop Process: Masking and Color Manipulation

Fig. 3.1. Photoshop Process (image by Freepik)

Firstly, the image is masked to isolate the child by removing the background. Using the Calculations feature, the channels are changed into grayscale, followed by adjustments to enhance contrast, resulting in a high-contrast black and white image.

Illustrator Process

Then, several designs of the inverted cross and fonts are tried in adobe illustrator. The inverted cross and typefaces are implented by different perpective and placement. Lastly, the shadow also added by gaussian blur.

Fig. 3.3. First The Omen Movie Poster Draft

The poster was designed with a center-aligned composition to create a specific perspective. However, my lecturer pointed out that the current 35-degree angle makes the text harder to read and suggested adjusting it to a 90-degree angle for better clarity. They also emphasized the importance of typography in reinforcing the design’s impact. Since the original poster has strong contrast and a clear layout, he recommended either removing the shadow altogether or making it fully opaque to maintain a sharp and defined look.

Revisions are made while preserving the center alignment. The perspective is adjusted to a 90-degree angle for better readability. Additional text is included, originally a prophecy from the movie.

Ensure the "+" sign matches the font, perspective, and alignment for a seamless look. "Fig. 3.5. The Omen Final Movie Poster" is the revised final version.

4. FEEDBACK

Week 5
The lecturer advised improving readability by adjusting the angle and reducing text distortion. He also recommend removing the shadow, as it decreases contrast and affects clarity.
