FINAL DESIGN 'Valerius Ethan Wirawan_The Omen (Horror Movie Poster)_Task 3'
1. INSTRUCTION
3. FINAL COMPILATION
Looking back on this module, I have learned a lot about design principles, critical analysis, and the creative process. Each task: Exploration, Visual Analysis & Ideation, and Development & Design challenged me to think more deeply about how design works and how I can improve my own work.
In Task 1: Exploration, I focused on understanding the fundamental elements and principles of design. Breaking down existing designs helped me see how composition, contrast, and emphasis affect the way an image is perceived. This phase was crucial because it gave me the foundation I needed to analyze and create designs with more intent and structure, but it is the most boring phase because I couldn't convey my idea in an artwork.
Task 2: Visual Analysis & Ideation was where I really started applying these principles. I analyzed The Omen (2006) movie poster, looking at how the use of red and black created a sense of danger and how the inverted cross in the shadow reinforced the film’s demonic themes. After that, I sketched three redesign concepts, each exploring different ways to enhance the symbolism and overall impact of the poster. This task taught me how to critically evaluate a design, justify my creative choices, and refine my ideas based on feedback.
Task 3: Development & Design was the most challenging part but also the most rewarding. I took my chosen concept and developed a final version of the poster using Photoshop and Illustrator. I had to pay close attention to details like typography, alignment, and contrast to ensure the design looked professional. One of the biggest challenges was getting the "+" sign to match the font and perspective correctly. After several revisions and feedback from my lecturer, I was able to create a final design that effectively captured the eerie tone of The Omen while improving readability and visual balance.
The part I enjoyed most was the ideation process in Task 2, where I could experiment with different design concepts and push my creativity. The hardest part was the revision phase in Task 3, where even small details like text placement and shadow effects required careful adjustments. However, this process helped me develop patience and a stronger eye for detail.
This module has made me realize that I enjoy conceptual and symbolic design, especially in horror-themed visuals. I have become more confident in analyzing designs and refining my own work based on feedback. While my creativity has always been a strong point, my ability to structure and analyze a design has definitely improved.
Later on, I want to continue developing my skills in narrative-driven design, particularly in areas like movie posters and branding. This module has strengthened my passion for impactful, meaningful design, and I’m excited to apply these skills to future projects.
