Project 2
21/04/2025 – 21/07/2025 (Week 1 – Week 14)
2. INSTRUCTION
Observation
I observed that preparation is extremely important for the success of any production. Having a clear storyboard and task list helped the crew stay organized and reduced confusion during filming. I also noticed how lighting and camera settings played a huge role in determining the quality of the footage. During editing I realized that color and sound adjustments could completely shift the tone of a scene. The choice of typography when adding the title also made a difference in guiding the viewer’s attention and setting the mood.
Findings
This project helped me understand the responsibility that comes with directing. It is not only about creative vision but also about being able to solve problems quickly and work closely with the crew. I found that good file organization and a clear editing plan saved a lot of time during post production. I also learned more about how to use color grading and sound design to enhance storytelling. Overall the project showed me how each production role connects and contributes to the final result and it strengthened my confidence in handling both the creative and technical parts of a film project.

3. PROCESS WORK AND FEEDBACK
3.1. Project 2 Exercise 1(A): 'Lalin' (Trimming)
We were given a video tutorial on how to edit the Lalin video, where we were shown how to trim clips, join them,
apply a dip to black, and add a crossfade. I followed the
instructions, and here is my process and the final result.

Fig. 3.2.1. Ripple Edit Tool
This trimming exercise uses the Ripple Edit tool to adjust the length of a
footage, making it longer or shorter without causing any unnecessary changes
to the other clips.
Fig. 3.2.2. Premiere Pro Color Correction & Grading Process
I opened the Lalin project file and began by applying color correction to the video. I adjusted the exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks to make the video appear more natural and consistent across all clips. The clips are also compared to ensure the color correction matched, helping the video flow smoothly without noticeable shifts in tone. Next, I created an adjustment layer for color grading. I dragged it to top track in the video timeline and began grading the clips. I used the RGB curve to fine-tune brightness and contrast on the Red, Green, and Blue channels for more precise grading.
3.3. Project 2 Exercise 2: Production Shoot
At the beginning of the production, we first assigned roles within the group. I was selected to take on the role of director for this shoot, which meant I was responsible for overseeing the creative vision, guiding the actors, and coordinating the overall flow of the filming process.
Fig. 3.3.1. Production Shoot Crew list
The producer discussed things with me and she made the production task list to ensure all crew do their task accordingly and everything was organized so there is nothing missed in the production day and post-production.
The storyboard was provided by the lecturer, and we only needed to add notes about each shot and study it to ensure a smooth shoot on production day.

I also assisted the DOP and camera crew in capturing some of the more challenging shots to ensure the visuals matched our vision.

After production day, we handled post-production individually. I edited the footage using Adobe Premiere Pro, applied color correction and grading, and added sound effects to enhance the final result.
Fig. 3.3.6. Post-production Editing Process in Adobe Premiere Pro
I organized all the files into folders and imported them into Adobe Premiere Pro. I selected the footage, trimmed it in the source panel using ‘in’ and ‘out’ points, then dragged it into the timeline. After that, I applied color correction to each clip and used an adjustment layer to color grade all the clips, referencing the look of a real movie.

Audio was synced using the clapperboard clap and adjusted for volume. I added copyright-free sound effects from the internet.

Lastly, I used text graphics to add the trailer title, applying typography principles especially color to make it more visually engaging and create a clear focal point. I also added a black fade at the end of the trailer for a smooth closing.

5. REFLECTION
Experience
Throughout this project I had the opportunity to be involved in every stage of the production process. From planning before the shoot to directing on set and editing during post production, each step taught me something new. As the director I had to ensure that everyone was on the same page and that each shot met the visual and narrative goals. It was a challenging yet fulfilling experience that helped improve my leadership and decision making skills. The editing phase especially required focus and consistency to make sure every clip and sound element aligned smoothly.
