Process Work

Final Assignment: Animated Webcomic

I conducted ideation and created initial sketches prior to beginning the work. All of these ideas were reviewed and discussed with the lecturer for feedback and suggestions for improvement.

I record all of my ideas in a sketchbook and, based on these written notes, I work to translate them into visual sketches. Given that my primary expertise lies in photography, I choose to capture photographs, which I will subsequently use as a basis to trace the outlines.

After completing and consulting the storyboard, I trace each outline in Adobe Illustrator. The tracing process is done layer by layer for each subject. To create depth and dimension, I utilize various brush styles and opacities to add dark tones, midtones, and light tones. The background, in particular, involves the use of multiple brush types to achieve the desired effect.

Certain areas are enhanced with a glow effect to make them more visually appealing. This glow is created using the brush tool along with Gaussian blur, and in some cases, the gradient tool and blending modes are also applied.

To finalize the project, animations are created in Adobe After Effects, where properties such as opacity, rotation, and position are adjusted using the 'transform' controls. The resulting H.264 MP4 file is then imported into Adobe Premiere Pro, where it is converted into an animated GIF.
